Who’s Your Favorite Draculaura?

Voting on your favorite Ghoulia is over.  Head over to the original post to see the winner!

With the V-Day special come and gone, it seems only fitting to post the Draculaura poll next.  Here’s your chance to tell the world who your favorite Draculaura is!  Draculaura isn’t my favorite of the Monster High gang, but she could be far worse a character.  The Draculaura’s released so far have been hit or miss for me.  I think it has something to do with her baby pink skintone or maybe the lack of thought put into her (uneven) highlights.

Who’s Your Favorite Draculaura?

My Favorites:

Dead Tired Draculaura- Draculaura looks great with this ‘fresh’ look.

Skull Shores Draculaura- She has one of my favorite make up jobs.

Fearleading 3 Pack Draculaura- The thing I like most about this doll is her hair. I love the styling!

And here are images of the rest…

Basic Draculaura

Dawn of the Dance Draculaura- I like this doll, but  refuse to buy two dolls I already own in order to get her.  It was a silly decisions on Mattel’s part to pair her with two factory dolls they already released.  We’re not all made of money!!!)

Gloom Beach Draculaura (redressed)

Draculaura/Clawd Date Night (possibly also known as her ‘School’s Out’ doll)- This is my least favorite Draculaura.  Her face looks too round and I don’t find her outfit very pretty.  The nice thing about this set was that I didn’t actually have to buy it at full price– I ordered a Cleo/Deuce set from the Black Friday Target online sale for $10 and the warehouses sent me the Draculaura/Clawd set by mistake.  That was a happy day, let me tell you!

Sweet 1600 Draculaura- I really like this girls hair and outfit!

Killer Style Draculaura- Unless this doll falls into my lap, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing her.  Mattel plan, releasing the outfits separately and on a doll, just struck me as odd.  Plus, I hardly ever saw these dolls on store shelves…

You know the players, now it’s time to choose your favorite Draculaura!

Hujoo Adds a New Skin Color!

I have some good news and some bad news.  Shall we start with the good news?  Hujoo has released their popular Wings model in light purple!  Hujoo’s are made of ABS plastic and until now have only been released in apricot and chocolate (or was it called ‘coffee’?) skin tones.  Warning, naked dolly’s ahead!

The bad news?  According to their site, this light purple model is currently sold out.  Also, it seems there is no factory face up option for these gals.

I really like the idea of colorful ABS Hujoo’s.  What about you?

Toy Fair 2012- Mattel, Big Chief, and Links

The toy industry gathered together in New York last week to show off their wares during this years annual ‘Toy Fair’. Although I didn’t attend (but plan on weaseling my way in next year!), attendee reports have been hitting the web at feverish rates. Here’s a quick run down of what we’ll be seeing from Mattel and some new Doctor Who tie in dolls from a UK based company.

Mattel: I think it’s safe to say that Monster High was the biggest draw in for the visitors to Mattel’s booth. Seen for the first time, con goers were treated to prototypes of new characters Robecca Steam, Venus McFlytrap, and Rochelle Goyle. Also on display were the Halloween dolls (Ghouls Rule) being released alongside Mattel’s first Monster High direct to DVD movie, a new male ‘Create a Monster’, basic Jackson, and the exciting ‘Create a Monster Lab‘ playset.

On the Barbie end, Mattel debuted the Photo Fashion Doll.  This doll is equipped with a digital camera that shows off the pictures you take on her graphic tee.  Pictures and a more detailed product description can be found here.

The last bit of news comes from MattyCollectors end– they days of hoverboarding are upon us! Everyone that has seen Back to the Future II will agree– if you take nothing away from the film but one thing, that one thing would be, ‘wow, I really need a hoverboard’.  Assuming Matty gets enough pre-orders, this 1:1 scale replica of the iconic hoverboard will be shipping out late 2012.  If I wasn’t sure this was going to be super expensive, I would so be on the list of recipients.  Unfortunately, I know MattyCollector  and don’t think this awesome prop will come cheap!

Big Chief:  Big Chief is a company based out of the UK. They’re currently working on the Doctor Who Franchise.  I’m most excited about their 12″ Doctor, a limited release debuting sometime around April.  This action figured, modeled to look like the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) looks fantastic, comes with many extras, and will have expansion sets available so you can easily change your doctors look without having to buy a new doll.  The doctor will be around $200.00 US.

Also exciting is there anime style 10th Doctor, modeled to look like David Tennant.  This 9″ figure will retail around $99.00 US.  I’ve already pre-ordered the 11th Doctor’s figure, but if I find this statue of the 10th doctor reasonably priced, this is mine!

MGA Entertainment To Release ‘True Hope’ Dolls in Support of Cancer Research

MGA Entertainment, makers of Moxie Girlz and Bratz, have announced that they are planning to release a special line of dolls entitled ‘True Hope’ June 2012 in support of cancer awareness.  This move is due to a recent facebook campaign calling for Mattel, makers of Barbie, to create a ‘Beautiful and Bald Barbie’.

While Mattel hasn’t responded with any new product announcements regarding this campaign, MGA released a statement saying that they’ll be releasing three Moxie Girlz (Avery, Sophina, and Jaxson) and three Bratz dolls (Cloe, Yasmin and Cameron) around June of 2012 with MGA donating $1.00 for every doll sold to ‘City of Hope‘.

According to MGA’s press release, “MGA’s mission is to provide joy and happiness to kids around the world. We believe children are our legacy and want them to be healthy, have confidence in their imagination and build their dreams into reality,” said Isaac Larian, CEO MGA Entertainment.  ”We have a responsibility to children and we take that responsibility very seriously.  The Bratz and Moxie Girlz “True Hope” dolls are designed to support and comfort young girls and boys who so bravely endure cancer treatments.  MGA also wants to be an active supporter in the fight to develop lifesaving treatments for children.”

You’ll be able to find these dolls at Toys R Us and online at Toysrus.com.

Re-Root: Susie Sad Eyes

I purchased a Susie Sad Eyes/Little Miss No Name lot online earlier this month.  I’ve wanted to try my hand at re-rooting both dolls and the price was great.  The first doll to be re-rooted?  Susie Sad Eyes.  Susie Sad Eyes dolls (of which there were many off shoots by different companies) were made in the sixties and seventies and were inspired by popular artist Margaret Keane’s big eyed portraits.

Susie started with rooted black hair.  The hair plugs were few and far between.  I’m still amazed the sporadic hair plugs actually work well on the head!  Also interesting to note is that Susie has quite a cone shaped head!

Susie received some left over hair I purchased from Dollyhair.  (I’ll edit in the exact name of the color when I go through my supply box!)

I think Susie looks much happier with this brighter shade of hair. It suits her pale face much better than the black she arrived with.

Susie is currently decked out in part of a vintage Skipper outfit.  I look forward to finding another Susie to re-root and experimenting on adding hair plugs to give her hair a fuller look.  She’s not the most well made of dolls, but I like how this re-root turned out!

New Release: Skipper Doll and Pet

I was browsing Amazon.com the other day and noticed this new Skipper– Skipper Doll and Pet.  Love the unique, inventive name, Mattel.  It will really help in selling this girl.  (Sidenote: I miss the days when you could easily identify a doll by the line’s name and look.   Any Skipper collector could tell you the difference between Totally Hair Skipper and Teen Time Skipper, but naming the dolls put out in the past few years by line or look– for me– would be tough!)

Below are two promo pictures of Skipper.  My opinion based on these images?  I like her.  I’m not over the moon excited about the release (because, really, do we need another dog?), but I’m not terribly disappointed.

Skipper comes with a pet, a little Pug, hence the ‘Skipper Doll and Pet’ name.  She is dressed in the traditional ’sporty’ top she’s been wearing since her inception and a jean skirt. Surprisingly, I like the jean skirt.  It breaks up the monotony of her past looks a bit.

If Mattel uses the same body as in the promo images for the shelf doll, then it looks like we have another doll with arms molded in awkward postions, a huge pet peeve of mine.  I can only hope that Mattel uses a different body, so poor Skippers left arm isn’t stuck in the bent position.

The top pictures shows Skipper with blue highlights and the picture just above here has purple.  Until she is released, we won’t know what color highlight she really has!  From the promo images, I can’t complain about her make up or face mold.  While there doesn’t seem to be a drastic change to past releases, I like the styling on this girl.

Will the actual doll look like these promo shots?  Who knows.  I’ll be sure to let you know once I add her to my collection!  In the meantime, why not voice your opinion on this new release in the comment area!
