Monster High Dolls

Wow, what a whirlwind.  I’m a little late to the party, but I’d like to say I really like these dolls.  Here’s a bit of background on this new Mattel line called Monster High.

Due for a July/August 2010 release, these dolls are slightly taller than Bratz and a head shorter than than My Scene (Photo Reference).    Due to a miscommunication on someone’s part on Toysrus.com, a very small number were sold earlier this month.  The listing has since been taken down.  (I know, I wish I’d stumbled upon the live link, too!)

THE DOLLS:

The dolls in the line (as of now) are:

Frankie Stein- Daughter of Frankenstien (Photo reference: Bottom Left)

Clawdeen Wolf, Daughter of Wolfman (Photo reference: Top left)

Draculaura, Daughter of Dracula (Photo reference: Top Right)

Lagoona Blue, Daughter of Sea Monster (Photo reference: Bottom Right)

Cleo  De Nile, daughter of a Mummy (Photo reference: 3 in from left)

Deuce Gorgan, son of Madusa (Photo reference: 4 in from left)

Character bios are here.  From what I’ve seen, a second wave has already been created, dubbed ‘Dawn of the Dance’ (Photo reference), as well as a possible Comic Con exclusive (Photo reference).

THE EXTRAS:

Aside from the doll lines, a major motion picture (possible movie musical, alla High School Musical) is in the works for 2012.

A book series is also planned to be penned by author of the Clique novels, Lisi Harrison.

More on the other elements of this Monster High campaign here!

THE WEBSITE:

Remember the videos that used to pop up all the time on the My Scene website?  The Monster High website (up and running!) is filled with webisodes, too!  The stories are cute and the extra characters (who have yet to be placed in the line) should make great dolls.  The zombie girl makes me laugh every time speaks.

So, what do you think of the line? Mattel is the king of marketing. The plans they have for this new franchise seem thought out and, so far, well executed (aside from the minor pre-sale).  I’ve caught the Monster High bug and can’t wait to see them in person and add them to my collection.

For photos by the lucky folks who got their hands on these dolls, go to the newly formed Flickr group!  (All the photos listed here as references have come from the group.  None of the photo’s are my own. You’ll have to wait till July/August for those!

If you don’t want me to link to your images, please leave a comment or send me a flickr mail at Kewpie83).
