Introducing: ‘La Dee Da’ Dee!

February 2012 at Toy Fair, Spin Master showed off their newest doll line, ‘La Dee Da’. I was taken in instantly!  It’s been a while since Toy Fair and there’s been little new information about this line, but finally, the wait is over!  It seems these ‘La Dee Da’ dolls are finally hitting store shelves!  This new doll line consists of four dolls: Dee, Cyanne, Tylie, and Sloane.

According to the press release,

La Dee Da™ is an outrageous fashion label created by a talented New York City teen named Dee and her three best friends, Tylie, Cyanne and Sloane. While attending design school in the city, these over-the-top designers always go for the bold, whether its shakeup makeup, fierce outfits, or crazy purple curls, La Dee Da™ invites real girls to create, imagine, and express themselves through a new kind of fashion play that is “Dee-lightful!”

Here’s one of the videos posted after the New York Toy Fair regarding Spin Master’s new line.

During an afternoon out and about, we stumbled upon an endcap filled with ‘La Dee Da’ dolls!  They’re just as adorable in person as in the video.  We left the store with the 1st edition Dee doll.

The packaging is similar to Liv’s with its easy to open ‘flap’ on the back of the package.  Course, it is also similar in that you have to fight back a lot of glue before reaching the doll.

Four ways your can manipulate Dee’s outfit!

The outfits on ‘La Dee Da’ dolls are designed to be versatile.  For example, the New York inspired dress on this 1st edition Dee can be a traditional skirt or just as easily a bubble skirt.  Also, the flowers on the dress and in her hair can be moved to different locations on the outfit.

Here’s a few shots of her out of the box.

Dee, free from her packaging.

Dee is 10″ tall and has a ‘New York’ theme.  It’s emphasized through her dress and her eye makeup (think Statue of Liberty).   As the 1st edition Dee, she’s an introduction doll and is in a series of her own.  She has jointed knees and a good body.  She’s not as pose-able as other dolls, but she’s super cute.

Dee’s Makeup

Alongside this 1st edition Dee, Spin Master has also released two other ‘La Dee Da’ lines, ‘Runway Vacay’ and ‘Sweet Party’.

Each doll comes with a fun booklet with information on the character and craft ideas!  For example, 1st edition Dee’s booklet shows you how to create a wallet out of a streetmap.

Accessories- Sticker sketchbook pages and paper portfolio

As I mentioned earlier, her dress is designed to change styles.  In 1st edition Dee’s case, she has a ribbon running the through the base of her skirt and when you pull it, the skirt tightens and turns into a bubble skirt.

Here you can see the ribbon that you pull to create a bubble skirt. Dee’s leggings also can be rolled down to create leg warmers.

I did a quick video review on Dee.  You can view it below.

According to the press release,

“In addition to the retail launch of La Dee Da, the brand will extend into the digital space with interactive content on and innovative apps for the iOS platform. Girls can participate in the adventures of Dee and her friends with e-Stories for the iPad. The website invites them to follow the stories and design ideas of the La Dee Da girls, create designs of their own, play games, and more. Games will also be available on iPhone and iPod Touch so you can play them wherever you go!”

It looks like the website doesn’t go live until July, so you’ll have to wait a few weeks before seeing all the content the site has to offer.  I’m hoping the website features a web series like we’ve seen from Mattel with their Monster High and MyScene line.

All in all, I really think this ‘La Dee Da’ doll line is adorable.  I’m a sucker for ‘big eyed’ dolls and these girls totally fit that description.  I’m hoping this line takes off and is a staple on toy shelves for a long time!

Now it’s your turn!  What do you think of this new line?  Share your thoughts below!

Wow, gorgeous! I will be keeping an eye out -I suppose they might not reach the UK unless they do well, but I’ve just had a look online and there seems to be quite a lot of hype about them, so here’s hoping. I am already examining your box photos and planning my buying strategy! 🙂

My fingers are crossed they hit the UK soon for you. La Dee Da’s are far too cute not to be a hit! It will definitely be interesting to see what kind of collectors latch onto these girls. I’ve seen interest from old school Jem! fans to Monster High fans, which is a pretty wide range, I think!
