Dolly Review: Monster High 13 Wishes Twyla

It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for Monster High 13 Wishes to hit store shelves.  I’m happy to write that the wait is over!  While I haven’t spotted all of the 13 Wishes line, I have spotted many and picked up a good few for my collection!  Without further ado, let me introduce you to the first of two new characters introduced in 13 Wishes, Twyla, daughter of the boogieman.

13 Wishes Howleen, Lagoona, and Twyla

13 Wishes Howleen, Lagoona, and Twyla

Twyla is the same size as Howleen, Clawdeen‘s kid sister.  Howleen needed some ghouls her own size and I, personally, love this size on Monster High dolls!  As a character who ‘hides in the shadows’, her color scheme is muted purple’s, teal’s, and pink’s. Twyla comes with her pet Dustin, a dust bunny, the traditional Monster High comb, and a Monster High stand.

A Few Accessories

A Few Accessories

Dustin, the dust bunny, is adorable and wins the award for cutest pet introduced in the Monster High line.  Seriously, he’s adorable!  He definitely needs a plush release!  I’d buy a big plush version of Dustin in a heartbeat!

Let me get right to the point on the stand– it doesn’t work.  The stick doesn’t like to stay in the base.  On top of that, the stand is sized for the traditional Monster High dolls and is a twinge too big for poor little Twyla.  Many people have mentioned gluing the stand together and that is a simple way to fix the problem. However, Mattel really shouldn’t be putting poorly made stands (or anything for that matter!) in with any of their dolls.  They’ve been around long enough to know that by now.

Twyla's Hair

Twyla’s Hair

Starting from the top, Twyla has sea foam hair with royal purple and blue highlights.  It’s fizzier and thicker than what we usually see on Monster High dolls. In truth, it gives Twyla a Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) sort of look.  I quite like the color choices used in her hair.  The royal blue and purple look really nice together.  A little more highlighting on the sea foam and her hair would have been nearly perfect!

Twyla-- strange how different they look from each other!

Twyla– strange how different they look from each other!

Twyla’s face is adorable.  Her skin is a light purple and her features are various shades of pink and teal.  While she wears some make up, her face isn’t over done and she looks age appropriate, I think.

Notice the grey hands

Twyla’s body, as I mentioned, is the same size as Howleen‘s.  Her purple coloring turns into grey towards her wrists and hands.  In the same respect, Twyla’s legs are tattoo’d with a grey swirl pattern.  No complaints on my end about these, as they look really neat on her!

Like Spectra, Twyla seems to have a purple theme in her clothing.  She actually wears a pretty cute outfit, which is to be expected in Monster High at this point.  In particular, Twyla has some neat patterns in her fabric and the purple they chose goes well with her light purple skin tone.  Also included with her outfit are multiple bangles (bracelets), earrings, and some adorable shoes.

Don't you love this? I would totally wear it!

Twyla’s Fashions

Overall, I really like this new release.  Howleen was in serious need of a friend and Twyla looks like the perfect partner in crime!  The only real con with this doll is the fact that her stand is useless, but that is the only thing that bugs me and is far more a Mattel problem  than a Twyla problem!  (Especially considering that Mattel upped the price by at least $5.00 for these new lines!)

I hope we see more of 13 Wishes Twyla in other lines!  She’s adorable and a fun addition to the Monster High line.  For those who would like to watch the video review, the review is below!

I’ve heard Twyla’s eyes are supposed to glow in the dark, please take a picture of that!

They do! Thanks for the 411. I had no idea, actually! The white bit of her eye (which there isn’t a lot of) was made to glow. I’ll try to take a proper picture of it, but it looks like it’s going to be pretty hard!!! It’s a neat affect though, in person!

      • Blackkitty replied:

Cool! What is the colour of the glow?

        • kewpie83 replied:

Nothing special– just a dim white color. I’ll investigate tonight. I know she’s been in a lit room all day!

What store did you manage to snag her in?

      Toys R Us

Thank you! I was meaning to pop over to reply to the earlier comment. I did, also, get mine at TRU.

Great review. I’ve not purchased any 13 Wishes yet, but in my head I had prioritised that GORGEOUS unusual Lagoona and Gigi – now I know that Twyla is Howleen size (hadn’t done any research yet!) I am much more interested …

    • kewpie83 replied:

I haven’t found Gigi yet, but have found Lagoona. I aim to get her review up tonight. The video review is already up on my YT channel though. She’s a weird one, for sure. Not my favorite, but for a one off sort of doll, I like her.

I’m still on the fence about Twyla, but there’s something about her face in one of your photos that I really like. I had to get the new Lagoona though. She’s my favorite out of the group.

OMG! OMG! finally how much are they. (im kinda afaird to ask)

    • kewpie83 replied:

They are $5 more than usual. I believe these were $30. Something in the factory must have gone up, b/c I don’t see any difference in these guys compared to the dolls that were $5 cheaper. Essentially, Walmart and Target are pricing them at Toys R Us pricing. (Hopefully TRU never finds out!)

For what it’s worth, I think the stand issue is hit-or-miss. I got my Twyla today and the stand was perfect.

      How much for lagoona

      • kewpie83 replied:

Sorry, I don’t sell my dolls. 🙂 I’m sure you can find Lagoona online.
