Dolly Review: Ever After High 2 Pack- Hunter and Ashlynn

After weeks of ‘being good’ and passing on this Ever After High two pack, featuring star crossed lovers Hunter and Ashlynn, I finally broke down and picked them up. Honesty, I love this two pack!  Why? Because it has within its packaging the first male Ever After High doll produced, Hunter Huntsman!

Ashlynn and Hunter

Ashlynn and Hunter

Born to Snow White’s Huntsman, Hunter’s story is intertwined with Apple White’s.  (If her story follows Snow White’s, then he would save Apple White by not cutting out her heart, only to face the wrath of the evil queen. Lovely, right?)  However, Hunter has a secret that puts him clearly on the side of the rebel’s– he’s in love with Ashlynn Ella, Royal and daughter of Cinderella.  As luck would have it, the Ever After High web series is showcasing this Romeo and Juliet romance, so there is no better time to review the fantastic Hunter and Ashlynn two pack!

This post is very picture heavy, so it may take a minute for slower internet speeds to load!

Hunter

Hunter

Let’s start with Hunter.  Spoiler alert– I adore him.  Slightly taller than the Ever After girls, he is a much needed addition to the Ever After line!  Starting from the top, he has a head of dark brown hair.  Similar to Monster High’s Venus, half of his head is flocked.

Hunter

Hunter

He has some rooted hair that falls to one side of his head.  The rooted hair is very sprayed down.  It looks fine, but I’m very tempted to give him a wash to get some of the gel out and loosen his ‘do up a bit. (Thankfully, he looks nothing like Jem’s Techrat!)

Hunter

Hunter

Hunter’s face mold is similar to the girls in terms of the ‘flat’ aesthetic.  However, it has a more angular look to it, as opposed to the round faces we’ve seen on the female students.  I really like it, myself.  Mattel managed to make this doll look masculine, which I appreciate.

Hunter

Hunter

Hunter has a simple, but well thought out face.  His eyes are a chocolate brown.  His lips are neutral.

Hunter

Hunter

Hunter is jointed in all the usual places.  His head moves smoothly (left, right, tilt).  He has jointed shoulders, elbows and wrists.  His wrists are a bit of a let down.  While they turn, they don’t tilt up or down as much as the girl’s.  (Edit: Apparently, my doll has super tight wrists and they should tilt fine, once worked in!) Hunter has thigh, knee and ankle joints, as well.  Slightly disappointing, is that Hunter has no joint in his torso area.  I would have loved if he had a joint in his torso to add a bit more tilt.

Hunter

Hunter

Hunter’s body is surprisingly fit, for a doll!  There’s some nicely defined arm muscles and a hint of abs under his shirt.  One thing that I really love about Hunter is that he stands really well.  I didn’t have to use a stand at all while taking photos of him.  Not only that, but he even stands well while posing with another doll.

Hunter

Hunter

Speaking of his shirt, the costume designers deserve an A+ for his fashion.  Don’t be fooled– this isn’t a four piece fashion, it’s three!  The forest green three quarter sleeve shirt is a one piece with the brown vest.  Under that, is a green sleeveless shirt.  And of course, he has straight leg jeans.  The look is pretty awesome and all the pieces work really well together.

Hunter

Hunter

I love the color scheme on Hunter and the small details, like the treated leather look on his hood.  On that topic, he has a real hood!

Hunter

Hunter

Not a ‘too small to put over the dolls head’ hood, but a real hood that you can actually put over his head!  Good one, Mattel!

Hunter

Hunter

To complete his look, Hunter is decked out in some awesome boots.  Brown with black accents (ie: dirt), these look lived in.  I love them!  He also wears a pretty neat brown cuff bracelet.

Hunter

Hunter comes with his bookmark, a stand and a super awesome messenger bag.  It opens and has enough space to actually hold something, which isn’t always the case!

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Onto Ashlynn, there are many nods to Cinderella in Ashlynn’s design.  I give Mattel credit for doing a great job on her hairstyling.  There’s clearly a lot of work put into getting Ashlynn’s waist length golden blonde hair to do what it does.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Little details include a braid that starts on one side of her head and travels across, like a headband.  Because of her styling, there are a few lightly rooted spots towards the front of her head, but the fact that the big bufont style in this hair design looks nice trumps that minor issue.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Ashlynn has a pretty face.  Following suit with her friends, her face mold is flat and her dark green eyes are large.  She has light pink lips and light blushing.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

I like this look in general, so I can’t complain about the face design. Ashlynn’s not my favorite Ever After High girl, but she’s not my least favorite, either.  (That would probably go to Blondie…)

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Like the other Ever After High girls we’ve seen, she has joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs and knees.  Her head moves fluidly.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

The one downfall of Ashlynn is her outfit.  It’s a blue and pink dress with a pencil skirt.  Now, here’s the thing, it looks pretty enough, but it isn’t very functional if you like to pose your dolls for photo’s.  The skirt limits the dolls thigh movement a lot.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

The poor girl can’t even sit down.  The most she can do is move her legs apart a twinge.  I would have loved if Ashlynn had been put in a looser skirt, to give her a little more movement.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Similar to glass slippers, Ashlynn wears translucent blue shoes that move up her legs like vines.  They’re a very pretty blue and they stay on quite well!  I like how Mattel played off the glass slipper theme, but didn’t take it literally.

Ashlynn

Ashlynn

Ashlynn comes with a clock themed purse, comb, bookmark and stand.  She wears the usual two finger ring, shaped like a bird, a bracelet, a necklace and shoe themed earrings.

Of the two dolls in this set, Hunter is the one I’m most excited to have in my collection.  He’s a pretty awesome doll, that’s for sure.  I can’t wait to do a larger photo shoot and get him paired up with the rest of the gang.  I’m looking forward to more male doll releases, especially Sparrow Hood!

Now that I’ve talked about the two dolls, here are a few photo’s of the two together that I just had to share!  I had far too much fun taking these!

Walking the Toy Aisle

My mom and I went to our usual haunts looking for the new Monster High Frankie/Jackson 2 Pack and Slowmo.  We didn’t find either of those sets, but while shopping, I whipped out my phone to grab a few pictures of what’s currently in the toy aisles.

Look it's Tommy, or rather Darrin.

Look it’s Tommy, or rather Darrin.

Looks like Chelsea, Barbie’s little sister, is now friends with a Tommy clone named Darrin. I’m all for keeping the line fresh, but I would have preferred if Mattel had introduced a boy character that wasn’t a duplicate of Tommy.  The least they could have done was make him a burnette or red head or something like that!

Skipper with Tent

Skipper with Tent

I’ve been looking all over for Safari Skipper’s.  Finally, I found one!  Now, I imagine this is just one of two Skipper releases in this Safari line, as the back of the box showcases a doll that isn’t in her pajamas.  This one is super cute, though!  Needless to say, I picked this girl up for myself.  (Check back later for the review!)

Bedtime Barbie

Bedtime Barbie

Bedtime Barbie’s aren’t new, but this one has a unique body.  Instead of having plush limbs, Barbie has a soft torso.  It’s actually pretty neat.

Style Barbie

Style Barbie

Isn’t Style Barbie cute?  There’s a blonde, but of the two, I thought this brunette was far prettier!  Her outfit is pretty great and her shoes?  Love them!

Molded Hair Ken

Molded Hair Ken

Look who’s got molded hair!  Yep, Ken and Ryan!  A lot of the rooted Ken’s have had some pretty sketchy hair, so this change is A-OK with me.  I must say, I really like Ryan! Now, we need to get him in the Life in the Dreamhouse line!!!

Tinkerbell dolls

Disney Pirate Fairies

Disney Pirate Fairies

I don’t know about you, but I love the Tinkerbell movies.  Here are four of the new affordable Disney Fairy dolls, Tink, Rosetta and new character Zarina, decked out in fashions from ‘The Pirate Fairy’.  Disney recently released photos of their special limited release dolls of Tink and Zarina, costing over $60.00.  For me, those a bit pricey and these wide release, less expensive dolls, priced around $20.00, are more than enough!

Woodzeez

Woodzeez

These are Woodzeez.  They look to be close to 5″ or so and are sold at Target.  The reason I took a picture these guys was mostly because of the accessory below.

I love these playsets!!!!  They look to be a great size for Nano Freya’s or even Pinky St’s.  I hope this line does well because these little rooms look adorable.

Sofia the First

Sofia the First- Sofia

I love this 5″ rooted Princess Amber doll!  Her and the corresponding Sofia are adorable.  This is bigger than the plastic (Pinky St like) mini figures and smaller than the tall 10″ talking dolls.  It’s the perfect size for backpacks or purses.  Plus, I love the rooted hair!

Mini Hello Kitty

Mini Hello Kitty

These mini Hello Kitty’s seem like the perfect friends for the mini Lalaloopsy and new mini Mooshka’s.

Mini Mooshka

Mini Mooshka

Different from the other mini dolls on the market, these look to be wooden.  They are a little bigger than Lala’s and the new Hello Kitty’s, but are so adorable!  I love how ‘classic’ they look!

Mooshka

Mooshka

From teeny tiny to humungous!  Mooshka seems to be expanding their line pretty quickly!  That makes me happy, as I love the simple aesthetic of this doll line.  These new super large, plush Mooshka’s look so huggable!

New Lalaloopsy Babies

Ahhhh!  How adorable are these new Lalaloopsy babies?! I especially like the one in the middle!

Birthday Barbie

For the most part, I like where Mattel decided to go here.  However, what’s with this dolls face?!  In person, it looks a bit too small for her body.  Which is strange, as usually, I’m complaining about the oversized heads on the current Barbie line.

That’s it for this Walking the Toy Aisle!  What do you think of these dolls?  Have you seen any new releases out and about?  Share your thoughts below!!!!
