Dolly Review: Monster High Monster Exchange Lagoona
Lagoona was my first Monster High doll. I just loved her look! There have been a number of Lagoona’s released since then, but unfortunately, not all of them have been as exciting as the first. Monster Exchange Lagoona, however, is adorable!
Monster Exchange Lagoona’s stand out feature is her wonderful, fantastic hair! She sports an amazing afro of blonde, tied down with teal highlights. This is what I call big hair!
Amazingly, it wasn’t completely flattened in the box. The promo images show her hair being in a slightly tighter circle. Her hair is looser than that, though, which works in her favor.
She is boxed wearing two hair accessories. The tall green accessory is not attached to her head. You can easily place it into her curls on your own. The black rose has stayed in very well.
It’s very easy to overdo Lagoona’s face paint. To me, she’s always looked best with more natural make up. This release sports a clean face with more natural looking make up. Her green eyes are surrounded by an iridescent sea green. Her lashes are painted shorter and thinner than many of the recent Monster High releases of late. Lagoona has bright green brows and she wears a pink lip color. The look is topped off with a smattering of freckles.
Equally as great is her outfit. I have passed on many Lagoona’s over the past few years and many times, it had to do with the outfits Lagoona is commonly given boring looking outfits. This outfit rocks. Her strapless dress is adorable. It features multiple fabrics– one with large pink polka dots, one with smaller black polka dots and one with tiny, pink stripes.
The skirt is asymmetrical, which I love! Lagoona wears a cropped black sweater featuring more polka dots. (I’m a huge fan of polka dots, so it’s no surprise I like this outfit!)
Lagoona’s footwear is pretty basic. She wears grey heels (with no actual heel) decorated with a single pink rose. They’re cute shoes and they fit the outfit well.
Lagoona’s limbs are, for the most part, tight. They hold poses well. Her elbow joints are a little looser than other Monster High dolls, though they don’t fall out of place. I feel like that happens a lot with the sea monster bodies.
This doll comes with a flimsy pink purse shaped like a shell. Honestly? The accessory is a let down. You can open it, which is great, but with active play, it’s going to break very quickly. Lagoona also comes with a journal, comb and stand.
Hands down, this is one of my favorite Lagoona’s and maybe one of new favorite Monster High dolls! Besides the flimsy purse, I love everything else about this doll.

I agree with you. She is so cute! When are you going to review Lorna and Draculaura?

I plan to post Lorna’s review next week. As for Draculaura, I don’t actually own one. I did buy one, but it is a gift, so I can’t open it. 😉 I don’t know if I’ll pick her up for myself or not yet!

Your reviews are really enjoyable, even though I normally stick with more classic fashion dolls (Barbies, Fashion Royalty, etc.).
However, you’re made me curious about this popular line. I was thinking about picking one up to see what they are like. Which ones would you recommend?

She’s adorable! I think the MH dolls are better than Barbie, they’re more diverse and can inspire girls to read actually good books (such as the original Frankenstein, Dracula etc.).

The Barbie’s of the past few years have been kind of ‘blah’, but I think 2015 will change that. And on books, I agree! I love that these dolls might inspire kids to read more. I’m a huge advocate for reading!

Out of all the face molds, I have to say Lagoona is up there on my top 5. Who would you say has the most impressive clothing?
I was thinking Abbey has some really nice clothing – I don’t understand thought why Lagoona went from this kinda afro like big hair to strait hair, or the color of highlights, this one looks more teal but others are so washed out looking.
I assume it has something to do with the cartoon.

Who has the most impressive wardrobe? Hmmm… That’s a very tough question!!! Of the original girls, I would have to go with Ghoulia. I think her outfits have been consistently good. Abbey has had some nice outfits, but unfortunately she suffers from having a strange face mold. I don’t mind the changes to their hairstyling so much. It keeps it fresh. I could see how it could be jarring, though. Like Howleen. The change from orange to bright pink was strange, to say the least. Thanks for writing!

The best Lagoona yet, I think 🙂 I’m definetly getting her.
I have a rule about only getting one of each character, but I’ll break it for this Lagoona

Ok, I absolutley LOVE ever after high, and I thought I should bring to ur attention that in my country (un revealed) I saw the basic cedar wood, kitty Cheshire, and Cerise hood in vanilla, thin boxes, much like the through the woods and mirror beach dolls. My country doesn’t have getting fairest, hat-tactic party, etc. but I thought this was very wierd. Also, should I buy her? I Really like Cedar but it just seems to odd. Any advice?

It does seem strange that she’d be in a thin vanilla box. Do you trust the store you saw Cedar at? Does she look like she’s the same quality as the others dolls you own? If you trust the store and she looks like EAH quality, I think you’d be safe to buy her. The box thing is very, very strange, though!

Hi! I really enjoy your blog 🙂
As a Spaniard myself I am not very happy with how this doll portrays our pop culture. It’s kinda all over the place.
For one I assume she’s wearing a version of a flamenca dress, except such dresses are never that short. depending on the type of dresd, it may be tight but it’s never above the knee and these have a cohesive print all over, not full of miss matching prints.
They could have given her proper flamenca shoes, which have heels, and the dress lacks sleeves too.
The blue head piece is called a peineta and it often is attached to a high bun. doesn’t make much sense wearing it with the hair down since these are usually made out of metal and they’re heavy.
Still it’s an interesting line and I specially like the new face ups but I wish I could ignore all that hahahah

Sorry but as a Spaniard (and a southern one) I desagree. It’s just an inspired dress, it’s not mean to represent reality at all. And peinetas can be made of multiple materials such as metal, bone, plastic, wood… Not only metal at all.
The only issue I find about the doll is the lack of bracelets and necklaces.

Hi, I just got this Lagoona but the back of her head is as flat as the cardboard backing. Any tips on how to shape it?
