Hairdorables by Just Play

At Sweet Suite 2018, Just Play debuted their new line Hairdorables. Available for pre-orders now and in store starting August 1st, Hairdorables are mystery dolls with the tag line ‘big hair, don’t care!’ There are 12 characters in the line and 36 fun, unique dolls to collect. As with any other blind bag sort of toy, you don’t know what doll you’ve gotten until you open a number of different compartments inside the box.

Hairdorables

Packaging-wise, I like the design of the box. It turns into a cute back drop/carrier for your Hairdorables to use after you’ve freed your doll from the box. Each doll comes with 11 mystery accessories, including stickers, hair accessories, shoes and more. There are two rare and one ultra rare dolls to find in series 1. My mom and I had a lot of fun opening our Hairdorables that was sent for review from Just Play! See the box opening below!

As the video shows, our Hairdorables turned out to be Super Neila, one of two rare dolls! Super Neila has funky aqua skin, which looks super cute! Her hair is in a high ponytail. Her accessories included a tiara and sunglasses. Another interesting thing to point out is that her hands are shaped in a way that makes it look like she’s making a heart with her fingers.

Super Neila has a well designed face with a big smile, even bigger eyes and cute round ears.

As far as articulation is concerned, the dolls arms do your standard up and down movement. Her legs, however, have a little more articulation with hip joints that allow you to widen her stance.

To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure what all the hype was about Hairdorables at Sweet Suite. I thought they were cute and all, but wasn’t sure why everyone was going gaa-gaa over them. Now, though, I kind of understand! The actual experience of discovering your Hairdorables doll is fun and having handled Super Neila, I think they are pretty cute. In an odd way, they remind me of Moon Dreamers, if you remember that line from back in the day! What do you think of Hairdorables? Let me know in the comment area!

Cry Babies by ICM

For review today are Cry Babies by the spain-based toy company Imc Toys. While baby dolls aren’t usually my thing, Cry Babies are the exception. Their big, animated faces with large features definitely caught my eye! (In a weird way, they remind me of Baby Herman from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.) Cry Babies are new to me, but may not be to you, depending on where you live. From what I gathered at Sweet Suite 2018, these have been out in Spain and other countries for a while now and are just hitting the US market July 2018.

Cry Babies

Cry Babies are interactive baby dolls that coo and cry. And boy do they cry when you take the pacifier out of their mouth! The tears that come out of their enormous eyes are not little tiny dainty drops– they’re large and heavy! This is definitely a toy that delivers when it comes to water play with baby dolls! I personally think the crying gimmick works really well in Cry Babies, partly because the large droplets of water make sense for their large cartoon-ish eyes. As well as crying, the babies will also make happy baby sounds. (See Cry Babies in action in the video below!)

Cry Babies, in the US Market, are dressed in three different looks, all themed around animals. You will find a bunny(Coney), bear (Lea) and mouse (Lala), all dressed in an adorable one piece hooded outfit that soaks up the water that spills from the dolls eyes well. The outfits are super cute! I especially love the teal mouse’s look! It’s adorable!

Cry Babies

While Cry Babies are big, they aren’t terribly heavy and should be easy for kids to take around. Just be careful where you play with your Cry Babies, because when they cry, they CRY! What do you think of Cry Babies? Share your thoughts in the comment area!

Skipper Hallmark Ornament (2018)

Sold exclusively at Hallmark Gold Crown stores is this adorable Skipper Doll Ornament! This ornament is considered 2 pieces, as you can hang Skipper, her box or Skipper in her box! She was released Saturday exclusively at the 2018 Keepsake Ornament Premiere events around the United States. This ornament was designed by Katrina Bricker to look like the original 1964 blonde Skipper in her iconic red and white bathing suit.

The Skipper box is made of a sturdy cardboard, while the doll is made of plastic. I’m impressed with the work that went into this ornament. The Skipper and box art look great!

If you’re interested in getting one of these for yourself, call your local Hallmark Gold Crown store and see if they still have any in stock. If not, check eBay. While the prices are inflated there, if you wait long enough, I’m sure they’ll go down closer to retail price, which was $17.99.  What do you think of this 2018 exclusive ornament? Sweet Suite 2018 Recap

This past week, I made a quick trip into New York City for an event called Sweet Suite hosted by The Toy Insider. Formally Blogger Bash, Sweet Suite is a mini toy fair event. With over 70 toy and game companies showcasing their new products for the year alongside deliciously tasty treats, 2018’s Sweet Suite was a fun evening filled with mingling and product reveals. Here are some highlights from the show floor!

Cabbage Patch Kids: A perk of any toy show is getting to catch up with Janis, who represents Wicked Cool Toys. One of their properties is Cabbage Patch Kids. In celebration of Cabbage Patch Kid’s 35th anniversary, Wicked Cool Toy’s chose to theme the products for 2018 around celebrations! (Perfect for me, as I, too, will be celebrating the big 3-5 this year!)

With 36 different dolls to collect (including two rare and one ultra-rare), these will definitely be on a lot of Christmas lists this year! Hairdorables hit stores 8/1/18.

Party Popteenies: Party Popteenies from Spin Master are pretty neat! Pull, twist and pop to throw the most fabulous celebration with these poptastic dolls! The dolls are pocket sized. Each Party Popteenies includes a doll, one hair accessory, 1-2 party accessories, themed confetti, and a collector’s poster. Wave one includes three different themes: Rainbow Unicorn, Cutie Animal or Winter Wonderland Party Popteenie!

D-Lectables: D-Lectables from Imperial Toys are right up my alley. These blind bags feature miniature sweet treats themed around popular Disney characters. Each D-Lectable is created with stackable pieces, so you can mix and match! I like how the designs are creative, giving you a hint of the character without being ‘on the nose’.

Did you catch our review on these doll sized (and super playable) mini arcade games from Arcade Classics?

I was worried that the loss of Toys R Us would put a wrench in toy companies plans for 2018, but judging by what I saw at Sweet Suite, this holiday season is looking pretty merry. There were a number of toys that I know will fly off shelves and be on many children’s Christmas lists! Stay tuned for the swag box opening video–to be posted soon! Does anything on this list strike your fancy? Let us know in the comment area!

UPDATE:

Here’s all the SWAG we received in the Sweet Suite Swag box!!!!

World Doll Day Toy Drive Results

The results of the World Doll Day Doll and Toy Drive are in! My goal was to match or beat last years donation count, which was in the 50’s, and boy, did we do that! In 2018, Confessions of a Doll Collectors Daughter will be donating 105 dolls and toys to Marillac St. Vincent Family Services Christmas Store! That’s double what we raised last year!

WDD18

I am so grateful to all who supported this doll and toy drive! Thank you so much! I know the families who benefit from the Christmas Store appreciate it, too!

The mailbox is still open for fan mail for both me and Barbee0913. We will be closing it around November, so get your letters in before then, if you’re so inclined! (In case it’s not clear, the blog/channels are still continuing– it’s just the mailbox that is going away.)
